A couple from Micco was saved by Uber Global Security from what could have been a devastating financial hit from fraudsters trying to scam them with what the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office says was the “grandparents scam.” It all began when the elderly couple was told a family member was in trouble and needed money. They thought it sounded legitimate, so they gathere up much of their savings to respond. They were told an Uber driver would pick up the money. But instead, Uber’s Global Security and Investigations division notified the sheriff’s office. Then, while Uber was transporting the money package, the driver got a call to stop at the nearest police department. That’s where deputies stepped in and returned the money to the elderly couple.
