The two…. an employee who is accused of the abuse, and his boss who is accused of trying to cover it up… were arrested following an investigation that was begun when the victim’s daughter showed up at Alura Senior Living on Christmas Day to take her mother to lunch, and discovered her sitting in a wheelchair facing a bathroom with the lights off, and with bruises on her forehead, face, and lip. She took her mother immediately to the hospital, where it was determined that she was suffering from a brain bleed. The woman’s caregiver, Daniel Villarreal, eventually confessed. Alura Executive Director Kelly Shovlin was also arrested for concealing evidence and trying to cover up the crime.
