An armed man from Merritt Island was taken into protective custody Sunday evening, after officers from the Cocoa Beach Police Department and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office answered a call about a man who was threatening to harm himself in the parking lot at Cape Canaveral Hospital on the Cocoa Beach Causeway. It all began around 9:15 Sunday evening, with the first report indicating a man was in a vehicle with a gunshot wound. Turns out, the 57 year old man, whose name has not been released, wasn’t shot but he was armed and he was threatening to kill himself. After several hours of negotiations, the man got out of his vehicle, unarmed, and was taken into protective custody.
