Boating Accident In The Keys Claims Life Of Port Orange Man

A man from Port Orange is dead after possibly being hit by a Florida Fish And Wildlife Commission boat while snorkeling in the Keys. Investigators say the 27-year-old snorkeler was taking part in the lobster sport season near Stock Island with another person, who says a Fish And Wildlife vessel approached their boat to check them, and he told an officer that the man was still snorkeling nearby and had not surfaced yet. The man’s body was pulled from the water a few hours later. Authorities believe the head trauma on the victim’s body appears to be from a boat. The investigation remains ongoing, but FWC admits that due to the FWC vessel being in proximity at the time and location, the accident may have occurred. Now, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an independent investigation to ensure complete transparency.
