Man Jailed After Machete Murder In Cocoa

A man was arrested Tuesday after being accused of killing his roommate with a machete in Cocoa on Monday. The Brevard Sheriff’s Office has identified the homicide victim as 75-year-old Juan Nunez of Cocoa. 37-year-old Juan Ortiz is now charged with second-degree murder and evidence tampering. Investigators say Ortiz moved in with Nunez just one day before he attacked him with a machete, slashing him several times, and they say he was in the process of concealing the body in the property’s backyard when he was confronted by deputies. Ortiz is now behind bars in the Brevard County jail with no bond.
