Passengers Return To Port After Cruise Ship Fire

On Monday, the passengers who had been on a Carnival cruise ship when it caught fire last week in Grand Turk, returned to Port Canaveral on a different ship. No one was hurt in the fire that broke out in the smokestack of the Carnival Freedom last Thursday, but the flames reportedly caused heavy damage to the ship’s funnel, and the ship had to be evacuated. The passengers arrived yesterday at Port Canaveral on the Carnival Conquest. Carnival is giving the affected passengers a $100 onboard credit and giving everyone a 50% future cruise credit. The company will also waive additional port parking fees and reimburse for independent air expenses up to $200 per person.
