New Mosquito Threat

A new mosquito species is being reported in at least three southern Florida counties, leading to concerns by scientists about not only the rate of new mosquitoes arriving in Florida and their potential to transmit mosquito-borne diseases, but just how far north they may go. The new species was first discovered in Miami-Dade County in 2018, and since then, thriving populations have been recorded in Miami-Dade, Collier and Lee counties. So far, there have been no reports of them in Brevard County, but scientists are concerned… saying there hasn’t been enough research on the new species and their potential disease risk.
