Sharks Can Predict Hurricanes

Some scientists now say it looks like sharks can predict hurricanes. Dr. Bob Hueter is the Chief Scientist at OCEARCH, the group that tags and monitors sharks, and he says new research shows that sharks can actually detect when a hurricane is coming. Scientists in Sarasota made the discovery when they were working with sharks as a hurricane was approaching. It seems the sharks can detect a fall in barometric pressure that is transmitted down through the water column, and they get out of shallow areas knowing that a storm is about to move in. Hueter also said that their research shows that sharks are also snowbirds. He says they typically spend the summer up north, and the winter down south.
