Brevard County Commissioner Kristine Zonka has been selected by Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo to be the new administrator of the Florida Department of Health in Brevard County. Her appointment remains subject to the approval of her fellow county commissioners at their meeting on March 7th. Kristine Zonka, in addition to her elected duties as a County Commissioner where she currently serves as the Commission Vice Chair, is a nurse practitioner in family practice with Health First Medical Group. She also serves as one of two medical directors for advanced practice providers like nurse practitioners and physician assistants. If the commissioners give her the green light to accept the appointment, Zonka will have to resign as a commissioner. Under state law, Governor Ron DeSantis will then appoint someone to fill the vacancy, because there are less than 28 months remaining in her term.
