Manatees Making Slow Comeback

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, while we are still experiencing what is being referred to as “an unusual mortality event,” overall, manatees are showing signs of improvement, and fewer of them are dying of starvation. On Wednesday, members of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said they were “cautiously optimistic” about the manatee mortality numbers so far in 2023. They also said that fewer manatees died in December 2022 than in years past and of those that died, fewer died of starvation.
